From her early beginnings as a kindergarten student to present day, Mercedes has grown up in the Long Beach community, attending school, church, community events and eventually practicing in a legal career in this fantastic city.  Mercedes has served on various boards to promote diversity and the interests of justice not only in her field, but in society, with California Women Lawyers, Women Lawyers of Long Beach and the Long Beach Bar Association.  In fact, Mercedes is completing her office as President of Women Lawyers of Long Beach this year and is excited to share her experience and passion with the LBBA.  When Mercedes joined LBBA as a barrister, she knew one day she wanted to serve LBBA’s members and officially joined the leadership team this year as a member of the Board of Governors.  Mercedes is eager to continue on LBBA’s board to contribute to the planning of upcoming events and continue the conversation about improving LBBA’s benefits to increase membership and outreach.

Johan Deprez*

Johan Deprez is a tax attorney who has been practicing law in California since 2001, specializing in transfer pricing, international and domestic tax planning, real estate taxation matters, as well as tax resolution with the IRS and FTB.  In 2005, Johan earned an advanced law degree (LL.M.) in taxation law. As an attorney, he worked for a large multinational company, major accounting firms, and – for more than eight years – the IRS. Johan started his Long Beach practice (Deprez Tax Law, APLC) in 2014.

Johan has been a member of the Board of Governors of the LBBA since 2016.  A rewarding focus is the Scholarship Committee that provides scholarships for graduating seniors from Long Beach-area high schools.  Johan looks forward to continuing to contribute to the LBBA and the Long Beach community.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Johan was an economics professor who taught at a number of American universities and published over 40 articles and book chapters in economics and law.   Originally from Belgium and growing up in Canada, Johan truly enjoys helping businesses grow, develop, and become more profitable. Johan loves long distance running, fine food and wine, travel and …. his wife, Nancy.
